Ask Key Account Representative Barbie Berger what her favorite aspect about her role with CRäKN is—and she’ll tell you how she loves seeing funeral directors save time while keeping their funeral homes competitive and profitable.
“As a former Funeral Director myself, it’s both rewarding and fulfilling to be able to help others in the profession improve how they work each day,” she adds.
We sat down with Barbie as a part of our ongoing “Get to know the CRäKN team” interview series. These Q&A-style blog posts are designed to help you get to know the team that’s building CRäKN and supporting customers each day.
She’s had a very successful career as a licensed Funeral Director in Illinois in the past, however Barbie has now been on the CRäKN team for a little over a year to date. In addition to her time in funeral service, Barbie also worked as a Pharmaceutical Sales Specialist before she joined the CRäKN team.
Keep reading to see when Barbie is most productive and what she (ironically) thought about being a Funeral Director when she was just 10 years old.
Q: Where did you grow up?
I grew up in a small town in Southern Illinois called Trenton. Trenton is near St. Louis, Missouri—with a population 2,300. Growing up it seemed boring, but in retrospect I feel it was idyllic. We did not lock our doors until the early 80s and people kept their car keys in their cars…easy to find! Sometimes boring is a good thing.
Q: Are you a night owl or early bird?
I am up early, each day, even on weekends. I am most productive and I do my best problem-solving in the morning.
Q: Think back to when you were 10 years old. What did you want to be when you grew up?
A funeral director, a hairstylist, or a truck driver. As a child, I attended some funerals and I thought, “This looks like a cool gig.” Although I no longer have a Funeral Director license, I am a licensed cosmetologist. And, I had a friend whose dad was a truck driver. He appeared to be well paid and he was seeing the country, but I have not been a trucker.
Q: Who is the best teacher you ever had?
I was very lucky to have really good English/Spanish teachers in high school. We spent a lot of time diagramming sentences which seemed pointless at the time. But, it paid off in college. I always received high grades on the papers that I wrote. I attribute that to my teachers.
Q: What’s one thing you enjoy about your work right now?
It has become a reality that funeral homes must do more with less. CRäKN makes that happen, which is enjoyable to see. If an owner has aspirations to acquire additional funeral homes, the efficiency of CRäKN can make it possible.
Q: Last question: What are you most looking forward to in the coming months at CRäKN?
I am looking forward to more and more features being added to our already comprehensive business solutions tool. I am also looking forward to more integrations coming to life, and watching CRäKN continue to grow and meet customers’ needs.
