This CRäKN Team Members Shares Why CRäKN is ‘Much More Than a Case Management Tool’

“You can bury your head in the sand, but remember what you leave exposed.”

That’s a mantra that Bonnie Arvin, a Key Account Representative at CRäKN, lives by. She knows it’s humorous, but it’s still very true: “Tackle issues head-on so you are ahead of the game. Don’t wait for something to happen. Make it so,” she explains.

Bonnie shared this mantra when we sat down with her for our ongoing “Get to know the CRäKN team” interview series.

Bonnie has served as a licensed funeral director and embalmer in Texas for nearly a decade. She holds an A.A.S. degree from Commonwealth Institute of Funeral Service and a B.A. degree in Mass Communications from Abilene Christian University. In addition to her licensure, Bonnie is an expert in training and project management and has been certified as a Celebrant.

Keep reading to learn more about the life-changing decision she made to challenge herself, what’s on her bucket list, and the book she’s embraced that she recommends other people consider reading.

Q: What’s your background before joining the CRäKN team?

That is a long story. Here is the short version: I started my career in recruiting at Electronic Data Systems (EDS), an information technology corporation. I worked my way up to project and account management and stayed there for 25 years. It was a great experience, but I felt ready for a change.

Due to the acquisition of EDS in 2008, I had the opportunity to leave. That led me to a life changing decision: I enrolled in school to become a funeral director.

Personal events led me to see what a positive difference a funeral director can make at a difficult time in a person’s life. I am grateful everyday for that decision to challenge myself.

I relocated from Fort Worth to Houston and went to Commonwealth Institute of Funeral Service. While there, I worked at a family-owned funeral home. I later moved to SCI as a corporate trainer. Last summer, I joined the sales team at CRäKN. I feel fortunate to get to work with such a talented group of people!

Q: What’s one thing you enjoy about your work right now?

I really love giving demonstrations of CRäKN to funeral home professionals. Once they see the power of CRäKN, their reactions are exciting.

Many times, it’s similar to, “I’ve been needing something like this for a long time,” or, “Where do I sign up?” This is a powerful funeral home management tool, well beyond case management, and I get to introduce it to funeral homes.

Q: What’s something that might surprise CRäKN clients to learn about you?

Most wouldn’t know that I am a twin. My sister is Betty, she is my best friend and hero.

Q: What’s an ideal trip look like for you?

On my bucket list is a trip to Africa for a photo safari. I would like nothing better than to spend several weeks exploring animals in their natural habitat.

In addition to a safari, I would love to spend some time working in a wildlife sanctuary taking care of creatures who cannot be released back into the wild.

Q: What’s a book you’d recommend?

One of my goals over the past year or so has been to rid myself of “stuff” that I have collected/inherited over the years. To that end, I have embraced the book “The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up” by Marie Kondo.

One tenet is to determine if an object gives you “joy.” If it doesn’t, get rid of it. I also find this principle works well for relationships and life in general. It has certainly made my life a lot happier and peaceful.

Q: Last question: What are you most looking forward to in the coming months?

I’m most looking forward to the growth we will experience, not only in our customer base but also with the CRäKN tool. The next phases of development promise to be exciting!
